- Lower the tailgate and remove the two end screws that hold on the front
bezel. After you remove the screws, it will be necessary to pull the plastic
inserts out so you can fully remove the front bezel.
- Remove lock arm from back of key lock.
- Use stencil to mark line to cut panel and drill mounting holes .
- Using a dremel like tool, cut the composite material out of the tailgate
to look like picture #5 Drill 2 - 1/8” holes per stencil.
- Remove the tailgate. Set tailgate on bench or appropriate surface with the
front of the tailgate facing up.
- It will be necessary to drill a hole at the bottom of the tailgate to allow
the short harness supplied in the kit to run from the lock handle area to
the bottom of the tailgate. Be sure your drill bit is at least 8 inches long
as it is necessary to drill thru a second inner chamber wall. Hole should
be left of center about 2 inches towards the driver side. Picture #7
- Insert the short harness with the 2 bullet plugs into the drain hole at
the bottom of the tailgate. The end with the waterproof connector should run
behind the bumper and under the truck. Push the harness end with the 2 bullet
plugs into the tailgate until it can be pulled through to the handle opening.
- Drill a 3/16 hole in the factory bracket as shown in picture #5.
- Slide the actuator / bracket into the interior of the tailgate as shown
in picture # . Remove the tape to temporarily hold the bracket in place until
you insert the tec screws thru the two holes you drilled in the tailgate into
the two holes in the bracket. Picture #10.
- Attach the connector pin to the actuator into the 3/16 pre drilled hole.
Attach the 2 bullet connectors from the wire harness to the male connectors
on the actuator. Test by hand or better yet, with a 12 volt battery. You can
use your cordless drill battery.
- Connect the long harness to the short harness installed in the tailgate
by pressing the 2 pin waterproof connector together.
- Run the harness under the vehicle as close to the driver's side kick pane
as possible. Use the tie wrap to secure the harness to the frame. Be sure
to avoid moving or hot parts under the vehicle, ie shocks, springs or muffler
pipes.
- Drill a 7/16 hole in the floor under the driver's side door trim plate and
insert the grommet. Run the wire through the grommet.
- 2002 model only. Remove the left side drivers side kick panel to all allow
the wires to be fished into the fuse block area. Open the use box cover on
the left side of the dash. Locate the brown plug on the bottom left of fuse
block. Locate Tan wire (lock) position #1 and the gray wire (unlock) position
#7 .
- 2003& up .It is necessary to remove the driver door panel and attach
the two wires from the Dyno Electric Lock directly to the wires at the door
lock actuator. See: Remove Front Door panel sheet.
- Remove the drivers side kick panel and fish the two wires thru the boot
between the door jam and the door.
- The GM locking mechanism is totally new. After you remove the door panel,
pull the clear plastic back at the bottom of the door and you will find the
GRAY and TAN wires at the bottom left side. You can use a 12V test light to
make sure you have the proper wires. See: 12V test light instruction sheet.
- Option.: If you prefer to actuate the tailgate lock on the 2nd unlock pulse
of your remote. You can easily connect the two harness wires to the Tan &
Gray wires located behind the center post at the drivers side rear door. In
this case, drill your harness hole under the rear door trim plate. Picture
#19.
- Attach the 2 blue wire taps to each wire. Wrap the wire around each wire
and squeeze close with pliers. Push the 2 pink male spade connectors attached
to the end of the harness into the blue taps.
- Lock the doors using the driver's side door lock switch. If the tailgate
locks and the doors unlock at the same time. Reverse the wires. Replace all
panels.
- Install the enclosed black plastic cover plate over the area cut out of
the tailgate. Picture #22.
